In the first part’s conclusion Coleridge describes Christabel as she comes out of the orgasmic gaze. He describes her as crying and smiling at the same time and then finally resting like a playful kid. In the second part of the poem, Sir Leoline is presented to Geraldine and he finds out that she is his once best friend’s daughter. Sir Leoline is so excited to see her that he embrace’s her and Christabel gets extremely jealous, the second transgression. She’s so jealous that she hisses like a snake. She now becomes the snake and Geraldine becomes the dove. Sir leoline orders Barcy the Bard to take Geraldine home and he vows that he will kill the traitor that harmed Geraldine. Both ladies are startled by this revelation, but continue on with Barcy the Bard. As they continue the journey, Sir Leoline listens to the dream and finally realizes that his daughter and Christabel have had intimate relations and he becomes furious and sorrowful at the same time. I wonder if Sir Leoline’s old friend set this whole thing up just to get back at Sir Leoline for something he did. The poem never tells us what happened that broke the two of them up, only that the relationship ceased. Also, during this incident of discovery, Coleridge describes both women as reptiles. Coleridge’s constant description of the reptile, the dog at the front door, the supernatural being is Gothic but not scary. It’s dark, but not gory. I like how he chooses the right animal or description of buildings, like the castle. The feel of the poem is mysterious and mystical. They both became snakes when they noticed Sir Leoline looking at them with disgust. And they showed no shame or guilt of their encounter. It does not give space or reform for change in the society; rather it instills a sense of fear among people that is usually misguided. Reaching from the Grave of Julius Caesar It is assumed that the title of a work should reflect the nature of its content. The title should relate to the to the central influence which controls the flow of the work. Shakespeare's Julius Caesar seems to contradict that convention. Caesar meets his bloody end at the hands of conspirators in the first scene of Act III, barely halfway through the play. He is not the tragic hero; that distinction lies with Brutus and Cassius, around whom the play revolves before and after the assassination. This essay will show that although Caesar is not the hero of this tragedy, he certainly is the title character. Like the storm in the first scene of The Tempest, Caesar's victory over Pompey at the beginning of Julius Caesar sets the workings of the plot into motion. The plebians and senators become increasingly separated in their loyalties. In a time of brutal civil war, the plebians feel they need a single strong ruler such as Caesar. The senators, on the other hand, fear that he might become ambitious and continue killing off his competition, i.e., the senators themselves. At the celebration of Caesar's victory, Brutus remarks, "What means this shouting? I do fear the people choose Caesar for their king" (I.ii.78-79). Cassius turns bitter towards Caesar, because he thinks Caesar is physically weak, and deserves none of the praise that the public heaps upon him. Very early on, Cassius mistrusts Caesar, and becomes just as ambitious himself as he fears Caesar to be. Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world Like a Colossus, and we petty men Walk under his huge legs and peep about To find ourselves dishonorable graves. Men at some time... ...art mighty yet! Thy spirit walks abroad, and turns our swords in our own proper entrails" (V.iii.94-96). Scene v shows Brutus finally giving in and joining his fellow senators in death, unable to bear the grief of their loss nor the guilt at killing Caesar in the first place. Thus Caesar, though dead and physically gone, remains a powerful presence throughout the second half of the play. The guilt that he inspires in the conspirators, and the vengeance he stirs up among the plebians, force the play to its tragic conclusion. This is the only way that Julius Caesar can remain the title character, by maintaining a powerful influence throughout the play, whether dead or alive. Shakespeare called the play Julius Caesar not because Caesar is the tragic hero, but because it is Caesar's ambition, his downfall, and his presence after death which cause the tragedy to occur.

1. Describe the impression you form of Gary Black (Blacky) in the first 4 to 5 chapters of the novel. I get the impression that Blacky has a shy, quiet personality and tends to keep his thoughts to himself. He seems curious because he asks a lot of questions and also anxious because he over thinks situations. 2. Blacky’s community is literally divided into two halves; those who live in The Port and those who live at The Point. Make a list of the features of the town that you think represent life there and explain reasons for choosing them. Blacky’s community is a small, run down town with little to do and almost everyone knows each other. The Port is a sleepy coastal town. In winter, the only action in town is the local football competition and in summer the action revolves around the beach and the interest provided by the annual campers. 3. Gary grows increasingly anxious as his football team’s Grand Final draws near. Discuss the reasons why Gary is so stressed at this time. Gary is stressed about the Grand Final because he is playing as the first ruck and he isn’t an overly talented football player. He has to play against the Thumper on the other team and that scares him because the Thumper is very intimidating and could badly injure him if he tries to stop him from getting a goal. Blacky also doesn’t want to be known as a ‘gutless wonder’ and that puts pressure on him to do well. 4. Gary is something of the ‘team hero’ at the end of the Grand Final and is acknowledged with the club’s ‘Best Team Man’ award for the season. Gary appears a little uncomfortable with this recognition, why? Gary is uncomfortable about being awarded the ‘Best Team Man’ award because his brother has won that award every season, hence why that is his nickname. Bl acky was also uncomfortable with the award because it didn’t intend to get in the way of the Thumper, but that’s not what everyone thought. 5. It is obvious that the issue of racism is a significant theme in Deadly Unna. Even though the Point was only half an hour’s drive for the Port, the two towns didn’t have much to do with one another except for football. A more subtle sign of racism in the novel is how the Nungas use one side of the change rooms and the Goonyas use the other, not by force, but because that’s just the way it was. If racism didn’t exist, the Nungas and the Goonyas would be able to use the change rooms together without feeling uncomfortable or as if they were two different groups. ‘BOONGS PISS OFF’ was carved into the shed. Whoever wrote this is obviously showing racism, but Gary also participated in the racist comment by not scratching it out when he had seen it, when he usually scratches out things he finds offensive to people. When Gary and Clarence were at the jetty, Gary bumped into Darcy and had a conversation. During this, Darcy said to Gary, â€Å"Just a word of advice from an old bugger who’s seen a thing or two in his day. You be careful of these gins now, lad. Nice girls, but they’ve all got the clap. Every last one of ‘em.† Darcy was being racist by generalizing the female aboriginals, not taking into perspective that he did not know all of them personally. At the pub, Mac told a joke to his customers, â€Å"Did ya hear the one about the boong and the priest?† He continues the joke by saying, â€Å"And the priest says to the truckie, don’t worry I got the black bastard with the door!† Although this action isn’t as racist as telling a joke like that directly to an Aboriginal, but it is still of ignorance and racism. Also when everybody laughs at the joke except for Gary, who usually does, but didn’t because of Dumby, Clarence and Tommy. He had gotten to know them and realized that racism is wrong. 6. Bob Black frequently describes Gary as being a gutless wonder. There is some suggestion that Gary agrees with this assessment at the start of the novel; do you still think that he is a gutless wonder by the end of the story? Make a list of the key stepping-stones (events) in the story that you think illustrate (show) Gary’s transformation from being a gutless wonder to a brave, independent young man. Choose two stepping-stones from your list and discuss why you think they are important. I think at the end of the story Gary develops a lot more courage and independent. I believe he became this way by winning the Grand Final for his team and becoming appreciated more by his peers, flirting with that female camper Cathy and going against his father’s wishes and going to Dumby Red’s funeral. I chose the Grand Final because I think winning a medal and being congratulated by many people made Gary develop more confidence in his self. I also chose when he went to Dumby ’s funeral because even though he wasn’t allowed to, he organised everything and took the risk of getting caught and facing the consequences to participate in the funeral. I think this gave him more courage and to do what he believed was right and to value his own opinion. 7. Which relationship do you think has the most influence on Gary as a person? Why? I think the relationship between Gary and Dumby Red influenced him the most because he changed Blacky’s views on racism and taught him to accept and understand the Aboriginal culture and realise how racist and judgmental people can be in society. 8. At what point in the story do you think Gary starts acting independently? That is, he starts making his own decisions rather than being influenced by his opinions and wishes of other. I think the most significant part of the story when Gary becomes independent is when he makes the decision to sneak out and go to Dumby Red’s funeral. 9. â€Å"Deadly Unna is the story of a young man’s quest to discover who he really is and what he believes in.† Do you agree with this statement? I agree with this statement because at the start of the novel Gary is a nervous teenager and by the end of the no vel he makes and ends relationships, learns new morals and values through different people, trusts himself to make his own decisions and becomes more independent, courageous and develops a more defined, unique personality of his own. 10. Most of the adult characters in Deadly Unna seem to be flawed in some way. Which of the adult characters do you consider to be the most deserving of praise? Why? I think Dumby Red’s father deserved the most praise because he was always kind to the community and showed good manners to everyone unlike most of the adults in the novel. After his son was killed, he showed no anger towards Blacky when he showed up for the funeral, even though it would be difficult to show any sympathy to someone who lives in the Port because of the racism and the obvious reason that his son was killed there. 11. When Blacky and his brothers and sisters paint over the racist slur at the shed he remarks; â€Å"It was gone. Not forever, but for tonight anyway.† Why was he so intent on removing the graffiti when he knows that someone is likely to write it again? I think he was intent on removing the graffiti because even though someone would write it again one day, he made a difference that night and took a stand against racism with his siblings. If a small group of people can change their view on racism, there is hope that more and more people can. Also because he would have felt proud of his self and his family.

While at the establishment, I encountered a woman who was diagnosed with cancer when under protection by the SPRAR. The woman who was already engaged in some occupation was forced to leave her job and obtain good care. Fortunately, the protection system managed to help her and she is currently fit to take on a job. There are cases that are hard to deal with and perhaps the standard procedures of managing them had not been developed by the system. Other than diverse needs of the refugees, some cases proved difficult to handle when I was at the organization. There was a young woman who had been sexually abused. This experience seemed to have had permanent psychological damage on the woman. Despite the care provided at the centers, the woman showed no signs of improvement. One other critical case was a man who had also had ugly experiences like imprisonment and torture. When in the country, he was also charged for theft. The care that was provided to him at the centers seemed not to provide a good therapy. He later moved on to stay in France. Such unique cases are hard to handle and no standard procedures may be developed to manage them.  The cultural diversity among the asylum seekers and the refugees is also a challenge that the system faces. The refugee reception centers receive victims from many different countries with the most diverse cultures. These victims with different cultural backgrounds have to be made to be one society and co-inhabit some niche. The individuals also have different lifestyles. There is a difficulty in developing a common organizational culture based on this diversity. There is need to cultivate in the refugees the need to respect and be able to accommodate the other cultures. Another challenge is the language barrier and the difference in the educational systems of Italy and the refugees’ countries of origin. In training such refugees as an attempt to help them make the ends meet, it would be required that they first learn the local language. While this may be advantageous to the refugee, it adds on the cost of the reception of the refugees by the protection centers. The difference in the educational system also impedes the attempt to model the refugees who had undergone some professional training before the flight to apply their knowledge and skills in the local setting. Cases have been seen where a professional refugee is not able to apply his or her professional knowledge and skills as they are in Italy. Such individuals are forced to start adapting to the system in Italy before they can apply their skills and expertise. The other challenges include the irregular migratory patterns that make the planning processes difficult in Italy (Redmond, 2009). The SPRAR has a problem in identifying the asylum seekers. The organization is well aware of the greater number of vulnerable individuals who need accommodation and other forms of protection. There is, perhaps, a barrier between the institutions and the vulnerable children. This may not allow for the identification of this category. A report in 2009 had showed that about 200 minors had been absorbed i nto the centers that support the asylum seekers (SPRAR, 2009, p.3). This number was observed to be far less than the expected number of the vulnerable children that need support. This has supported the initiatives to help the refugees regain their status in the society in accordance with the United Nations objectives and goals implemented th rough the UNHCR, which has been to resettle refugees back to their original countries after the end of a crisis (Mklebust, 1997). The system is concerned with the spiritual, moral, psychological, and different other aspects of growth in the individuals in the centers. Thus, irresponsible behaviors like alcoholism and drug abuse are not tolerated in the camp. A case occurred while at the center whereby a refugee in the camp grew violent and attacked others after taking alcohol. The management did not spare the individual despite his poor social and economic status. The individual was arrested and charged alongside the dealer who sold drugs to the refugees.  The protection systems are sensitive to the diverse needs of the refugees and asylum seekers. These individuals have varied problems that need to be addressed differently. There are special considerations given to the victims living with HIV/AIDS. Another special group that needs the attention of the protection system is minors who are not accompanied by their parents. It is always easy to accept and approve the vulnerability of such minors to more dangers and their need for protection. The protection systems in Italy have provided the minors with the opportunities to develop into full human beings. They have had opportunities to learn Italian and study other professional subjects that can enable them earn a living independently. Some of the minors have had a chance to be registered as citizens of the country (SPRAR, 2009). Some achievements in the organization Despite the problems and challenges that have impeded the operation of the system, there are certain achievements that can be pointed out so far. Firstly, the system has succeeded in coming up with a mechanism which collectively helps in fighting for the rights of the refugees. It has managed to draw the attention of different individuals from various sectors to help collectively in reinstating the asylum seekers to their respectable human status in the society. The system has also succeeded in developing a multicultural society that recognizes the cultural diversity among the different members. By holding on the values like love and respect for others, the workers in the various local bodies have managed to establish an effective environment for the cohabitation of different cultures. The refugees in the accomodations are not supposed to stay there for a lifetime. The camp should harbor the refugees for a limited time period of six months while the long term solutions to their problems are being sought. The dynamic situations that may force individuals to flee their countries are still evident and more refugees are expected in the camps. There is then a need to ease the congestion at the centers. As a way of relieving the refugee centers of the pressure that could be exerted due to the increasing flow, it is necessary that the refugees that have obtained the required protection including training and guidance be resettled els ewhere. The system assists various individuals or families and releases them when they are fit to survive independently. During the integrated reception, the victims have to prove their ability and willingness to be self-reliant. The system has succeeded in successfully training adults and resettling the individuals afresh (SPRAR, 2009). Such individuals will be role models to others in the camps and could be used as reference points by the staff during guidance and training. A case was witnessed where an individual was provided with resources by SPRAR to reestablish himself. The individual managed the resources successfully and started a new life in Cagliari.  The organization has also gone a milestone in promoting education among the minors in the camps (SPRAR, 2009). The system has seen an increased number of the minors attending educational institutions. The education provided at these institutions prepares the minors to meet their social and economic needs when they grow up. They also enable the children to learn how the Italian systems like language and culture that are necessary for an individual staying in the country works. This also encourages an individual who would want to obtain the Italian citizenship after he is fully established. The guidance provided at the centers enable the minors to handle the difficult situations that may reemerge in the future. In the learning process, sporting activities that can help the children identify their specific talents are also involved. The role and place of the host organization in the wider human rights movement The issues on human rights are currently of concern by the international governmental and non-governmental organizations (Henkin, 1979). The human rights movements are concerned with ensuring that justice is practiced to all individuals across the cultures. It also aims at upholding all the cultures protecting those minors vis-à  -vis the mainstream ones (Welch, 2001). The organization has played key roles in promoting human rights movement in Italy in the recent years. In the first place, the move to provide an integrated reception to the refugees enables these individuals to realize their dreams that were long lost due to their previous displacement and past traumas. These individuals have all the rights that any other human being has. The individuals have the right to life, self-expression, freedom of speech, security, education, health services and even participation in national issues just like the others. The violation of such rights is the main concern of the human rights movements. By the integrated reception, SPRAR promotes the human rights movement in ensuring that justice is practiced to the refugees. Secondly, the strategy that has been applied by SPRAR in collaborating with the central government and the local authority has manifested a system of governance that is effective in all the social organizations. The system has thus been adopted by the other areas wit hin Italy (SPRAR, 2009). Concluding remarks and recommendations The organization can be accredited in establishing a mechanism that does not only provide a remedial solution to the problems faced by the refugees but also develops the refugees into individuals that can survive independently. The system has succeeded in helping establish new families from the refugee camps. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to be done to manage the refugees and the situations that may force individuals to seek refuge elsewhere. Firstly, it is important to focus on the original roots of the situations that result into refugees. The system should link up with the governments and the other authorities from the countries of origin of the refugees. The respective governments are better placed to solve the crises that would force a section of the population to move outside the country. The national agencies need to comply with the provisions of the international organizations like the UNHCR to establish ef fective ways of determining the causes of the flow of refugees from some given geographical areas. Italy was seen to violate the provisions of the UNHCR by sending refugees from Libya back to their country (Redmond, 2009). Most of these governments have subsidiaries that deal with the violation of human rights. By involving the law-enforcers and following the legal procedures that are established by each government, the cases of violation of human rights can be minimized.  There are situations that may be identified by the governments but the immediate solution fails due to lack of enough resources. The system needs to collaborate with more donor agencies, political bodies, and commercial businesses to provide immediate assistance to victims that have suffered some violation.
